Maverick Battalion Marches in Veterans Day Parade, November 2018

Am pleased to announce that the Maverick Battalion marched in the Mansfield, Texas Veterans Day parade. In addition to the battalion, the UTA contingent included a jeep pulling one of the Carlisle Cannons, a musical detachment consisting of a bugler, bass drum, snare and LTC (Ret) Mark Latham on the bagpipes, and the Sam Houston Rifles.  Will post a complete set of photos of the Corps marching in the Photo Gallery, but it make take some time, so keep checking.

Alumni Meet & Support Mav Battalion Army 10 Miler Team, October 2018

DC area alumni welcome UTA Maverick Battalion team participating in the Army Ten Miler! Learning UTA was sending a six cadet team to the Army Ten Miler, the second largest 10 mile race in the US, CCAC members quickly organized a welcome dinner. We were also able to connect with DC area and visiting alumni. We had not done this in a long time and everyone enjoyed getting to know each other and the cadets. Am delighted to report that CCAC Life members Colonel (Ret) Kenneth Smith & LTC (Ret) Kevin Smith were the keynote speakers at the 29th annual “Run to the Wall ” at the Texas state Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Fair Park in Dallas. Congratulations to CCAC Life Member Col. (ret) Joe B. Swift for being selected as a Distinguished Alumni by North Dallas High School in September 2017.  Joe is a 1963 Distinguished Military Graduate of UTA (then Arlington State College) with an Infantry commission. He was a member of ASC’s nationally recognized Rifle Team and, after entering active duty was on the All-Army Rifle Team. After flight school, he served two tours in Vietnam and tours in Korea and Europe. He retired from active and reserve duty in 1994. His military awards […]

  Jeannie (pictured with her family) was recently recognized as the first Arlington graduate of the Texas Emerging Leaders Academy conducted by the Texas PTA. She is also beginning her fourth term on the Board of Directors of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. Jeannie received the Chamber’s Women’s Alliance Rising Star Award in 2014 which was the first year the Chamber gave this award recognizing a woman who has made significant contributions early in her career. CCAC Life Member Major General Les Simpson Retires as Commanding General 36th Infantry Division, July 2017

Congratulations to Major General  Les Simpson on his retirement from the Texas Army National Guard after 37 years of excellent service to the nation and our state. Simpson completed his career as the commanding general of the 36th Infantry Division, serving in that capacity since 2014. Among other awards and recognitions, he was awarded the Texas Superior Service Medal by Major General John F. Nichols during the ceremony at the Texas State Capitol on July 15, 2017. Two Cadets Receive CCAC Scholarship Awards Totalling $5,000, May 2017

Congratulations to MS2 cadets Shibo Yu and Amanda Garcia, the 2017 recipients of the CCAC scholarship awards!  A total of $5,000 was distributed between the two. Thanks to CCAC Gold Bar program members whose tax-deductible donations enable the CCAC to award these scholarships. CCAC Members Conduct Leadership Panel for Cadets Feb 2017

On 23 February 2017, following a one hour session on leadership by Major General Anthony Cucolo, the UT system associate vice chancellor for leadership and veterans’ program,  six CCAC members conducted a panel on “Bringing Military Leadership Experiences to a Civilian Profession” for the UTA cadet corps.   They discussed how military training & experience  transcends into civilian life and careers.   Those skills overlap, and certainly the panel members have impressive resumes and credentials that prove the point. Floyd Wine was presented the Van Weston award from March of Dimes, Fort Worth Chapter this morning. He has volunteered for 47 years for them, and has been a Chairman for over 35 years for The Cowtown-wowzers! Side note: you may have seen him DJ at The CALF Run or dance at the start line during Cowtown Marathon weekend. Thank you Floyd for your countless volunteer hours, you’re one of a kind!

Congratulations to Eddie T. Drain, the new Police Chief in Amarillo, Texas. You can call him Chief, or you could call him Colonel. Seems so many of our UTA Military Alumni really take to heart the word “Service.” Eddie is no exception. Run To The Wall

UTA’s Military Science Department is often invited to participate in the Annual Run-to-the-Texas-Vietnam-Memorial-at-Fair-Park event in Dallas in November. The memorial at Fair Park is the oldest memorial dedicated to the Texas veterans that paid the ultimate sacrifice. The Sam Houston Rifles perform and the UTA Color guard  present the colors.  A large crowd of mostly Vietnam Veterans usually attend.  .The Run to the Wall event coordinator is CCAC member Fred Campos, USMC.
