Whenever possible and appropriate, the CCAC likes to keep its members and friends informed on what other members are doing. This article is part of that effort.
In December 2017, John Yim (UTA class of 1981), joined by Command Sergeant Major (Ret) Joe ‘Chinaboy’ Lopez, flew to Hong Kong to attend the 54th anniversary of John’s alma mater, St. Francis Xavier’s School (SFXS), and Tsuen Wan Chiu Chow Public (primary) School (TWCCPS) and sightsee in Hong Kong. CSM Lopez was in the UTA ROTC cadre when John attended UTA and became a ROTC cadet and member of the ROTC Insurgent Team in 1977-1981. They became close friends and CSM Lopez has been John’s mentor for the past four decades. Both are CCAC Life members and CSM Lopez is in UTA’s Military Science Hall of Honor based on his outstanding military service. After serving in the 101st Airborne Division, John pursued a civilian engineering career using his strong Mathematics skills in defense of our country.
At the St. Francis Xavier’s School, in addition to vising with alumni, they gave students a pep talk on the importance of higher education and personal diligence; and at the primary school, they gave out American toys, as well as NASA and US Army Blackhawk helicopter decals. According to John, the primary students were particularly enlightened with the rubber band powered “rockets” which they promptly tested on the school playground.
The first photo is of 101st ABN veteran John and CSM Lopez with a grade 12 class and four other alumni at SFXS and the second photo is on them with the TWCCPS students eager to try the American toys.
