Congratulations to CCAC Life Member Col. (ret) Joe B. Swift for being selected as a Distinguished Alumni by North Dallas High School in September 2017. Joe is a 1963 Distinguished Military Graduate of UTA (then Arlington State College) with an Infantry commission. He was a member of ASC’s nationally recognized Rifle Team and, after entering active duty was on the All-Army Rifle Team. After flight school, he served two tours in Vietnam and tours in Korea and Europe. He retired from active and reserve duty in 1994. His military awards include the Legion of Merit, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, 32 Air Medals, one with a V device and the Purple Heart.
After his military retirement, he had an active civilian career. His last position was with Bell Helicopter as the Logistic Engineer responsible for the maintenance and repair plans and inspection procedures for the V-22 Osprey drive shafts and gear boxes. He retired in 2004. He now volunteers with the Frontiers of Flight Museum and the Commemorative Air Force and is active in his church. He also assists his wife, Betty, who serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate.
He is a 2011 Inductee into UTA’s Military Science Hall of Honor.
